As our nation reels from twin outbreaks of disease and social unrest, the art of communication has never been more important. Our mental and physical health, as well as the health of our society at large, are all affected by how well we cope in this challenging time.
Mindfulness offers tools to help us face challenge with more calmness and clarity. Core practices date back thousands of years. More recently, they have gained wide acceptance across a range of fields including medicine, business, the arts, and the military for their scientifically proven ability to help manage stress, depression, anxiety, and physical pain; to improve decision making; and to increase quality of life. This course will explore mindful ways to communicate.
The class is being offered in two formats: Online as a series of four, one-and-a-half-hour classes, and also as an in-person, outdoor retreat with seven hours of instruction spread over two days. The class will cap at fifteen students. The retreat will be limited to ten people to allow proper social distancing, and will be scheduled early in the morning, from 7 am – 10:30, to avoid the heat in the desert Southwest.
